How to load your dishwasher correctly
The dishwasher is a true hero in the kitchen: It makes dishes spotless without us having to lift a finger. But to let it reach its full potential, it needs our help with loading. No more dishes that don't get properly cleaned – in this blog post, we'll show you our Tips, how to load your dishes correctly and get your dishwasher to perform at its best.

Here are a few proven Tips tips for correctly loading your dishwasher:
- Sort cutlery with the handle facing downward, so that the dirty ends face upward. This allows the dirty areas to be rinsed optimally with water. However, make an exception for sharp knives – due to the risk of injury, it's better to load them the other way around.
- Load from largest to smallest: Place large, sturdy dishes on the bottom, small and delicate items like glasses on top. Taller parts, for example, should be positioned at the back of the lower rack. Plastic items, on the other hand, should go in the upper rack – they are most comfortable there due to the lower temperatures.
- Load dishes without touching each other – water can't reach areas where dishes touch each other. For the same reason, avoid stacking dishes. If you're dealing with heavily soiled plates, leave a little extra space between them to ensure every stain is completely removed.

- Sort glasses, cups, and bowls as much as possible with the opening facing downward, so that no dirty water collects in the openings and you don't have to deal with wet dishes.
- Avoid overloading your machine. An overcrowded machine not only leads to poor cleaning results, but can also cause damage to your dishes from collisions or friction.
- Remove stubborn stains, large food scraps, and major grease residue before loading. This prevents the filter from clogging and residue from spreading to other dishes. A pre-rinse is generally not necessary, though – your machine has enough power to clean your dishes effectively even without pre-treatment.
- Avoid loose parts like lids or smaller items on top of the loaded dishes in the dishwasher. This can prevent water and detergent from reaching all dishes evenly and cleaning them properly.

You've probably heard these tips before. Here, we present a few expert tips, that might not be known in every household:
- Make sure the spray arm can move freely. Pay special attention to tall items so they don't interfere with the free movement of the spray arms. This is the only way to ensure water circulates freely between all parts and cleans your dishes effectively.
- A certain disorder inside the machine leads to more effective cleaning. Yes, you heard that right! A little chaos in the machine allows water to reach all corners and gaps better than perfectly arranged dishes. For example, don't place all small and large plates separately, but alternate them. This allows water to reach everywhere more evenly, leading to a more thorough clean.
- Arrange glasses and plastic items alternately in the upper rack, to prevent friction and possible damage to delicate glasses. It's also recommended to load plastic dishes at an angle. Light plastic containers tend to tip over during the cycle, which causes water buildup – this is prevented by angling them.

- Place large pots and pans with their inside facing outward in the corners of the rack. This prevents them from blocking water flow to other dishes.
- Hardly any space for large items in your machine? No problem – check if you can adjust the upper rack of your dishwasher. Some models have an adjustable upper rack that gives you the space you need for bulky dishes. Loading becomes a breeze, even when it's tight.
