Advent, Advent, a little light is burning. If you aren't careful, candle wax will end up on your sweater when you blow it out or accidentally drip onto your tablecloth. Don't panic: We'll show you how to still enjoy the festive candlelight and how to fully remove candle wax in this blog post.
Let the wax harden first
The most important thing first: Let thecandle wax cool down and dry out first, before you do anything. Because if the wax is still warm and you try to remove it, it will seep deeper into the fabric and the stain will get even bigger.
Cold against wax
Icy temperatures speed up the hardening process, but they have another benefit: Cold makes wax porous and crumbly. If possible, you can put the affected garment in the freezer for a few hours. Alternatively, you can treat the stain with an ice cube.
The cold method is especially suitable for delicate fabrics, by the way.

Heat against wax
You can use the heat method on cotton clothing or tablecloths.
- For this, place clean kitchen paper (or blotting paper) under and over the wax stain.
- Iron over the stain with the iron until the two kitchen papers have absorbed all the wax.
- Depending on the stain, you may need to adjust the paper to get a clean, absorbent spot over it.
- You can also do this with a hair dryer instead of an iron.

Important: The heat method is not recommended for colored candle wax. The color could transfer onto the fabric from the heat. It's better to use cold here.
Scrape off the wax carefully
Once the candle wax has dried, you can carefully scrape it off with your finger or a blunt object.
Pre-treat the grease stain under the wax
A greasy film has most likely formed under the wax. You can pre-treat this before Laundry.
- With laundry soap: Dampen the stain, rub the soap into it, and let it sit for about an hour.
- With mineral water: Drizzle carbonated water over the stain and let it sit for about ten minutes.
Into the washing machine
Cloth napkin, tablecloth, or sweater? The item affected by candle wax can now go into the washing machine. Provided its care label confirms it is washable!
Thebluu-Laundry Detergent Sheets work for all textiles, colors, and temperatures.
Be careful with delicate fabrics
If candle wax from the Christmas tree happened to drip onto Aunt Rosie’s silk blouse, extra caution is needed.
The cold method using the freezer is most promising for delicate fabrics like silk and wool. The wax can usually be scraped off completely.
For a stubborn stain, however, we recommend a visit to the dry cleaner.
With these Tips, nothing stands in the way of warm, cozy candlelit moments. We wish you a beautiful, peaceful Christmas season. :)
