Why is the bottle so hygienic?

The bottle is made of borosilicate glass 3.3, a specialty glass that is particularly resistant to chemical substances such as alkalis and acids and contains no harmful substances (such as BPA). Its smooth, non-porous surface prevents bacteria from adhering to it, remains odorless and completely tasteless even after repeated use. It’s no wonder that this glass is primarily used in laboratories and the food industry and is considered the most suitable material for storing food.

What's the best way to clean the bottle?

Cleaning is easiest with our Cleanions water bottle cleaner:

Usage: Add 8-10 Cleanions to the bottle. Add some warm water (fill to a maximum of 1 cm high). Close the bottle tightly and shake vigorously for at least 40 seconds. Warning: A slight pressure may build up inside the bottle. Open the bottle carefully and then rinse it thoroughly - done!

What components and materials is the bottle made of?

Glass:
The bottle is made from borosilicate glass 3.3, which was later patented under the brand name DURAN® and has since served as the standard material for manufacturing laboratory glassware. The glass has extremely high resistance to heat and temperature changes as well as very high mechanical strength.

Wire bail:
The wire bail is made from stainless steel and is therefore corrosion-resistant, temperature-resistant, durable, and hygienic.

Lid:
The lid is made from plastic (FDA food quality standard, EU food-safe, phthalate-free). The plastic lid weighs around one-third of a ceramic lid and is also much more compact.

Seal:
The sealing ring is made from food-safe silicone (FDA standard, EU-compliant, phthalate-free). Silicone is a synthetic material made from silicon and oxygen. Silicon is abundant on Earth and thus a sustainable resource. This material is particularly heat- and cold-resistant, making it ideal for use as a sealing ring.

How shatter-resistant is the bottle?

The bottle is and remains a glass bottle. While borosilicate glass is more durable than regular glass, it is not completely unbreakable. For this reason, the bottle can shatter, especially when full, if dropped from a great height or onto a hard surface. Unlike regular glass, which shatters into large, sharp shards, borosilicate glass breaks into many smaller, blunt, and less sharp-edged fragments. This property helps prevent cuts, as the small fragments have no sharp edges.

Where is the bottle made?

All components of the bottle are manufactured and processed in Germany.

Can I fill the bottle with boiling water?

Yes, thanks to the heat-resistant borosilicate glass, you can easily fill the bottle with boiling water too. Warning: hot stuff!

Is this bottle suitable for carbonated drinks?

The bottle is suitable for carbonated drinks and is also normally leak-proof when filled with them.

Is the bottle dishwasher-safe?

Yes, the bottle (including its swing-top closure) can be cleaned in the dishwasher without any problems. However, the dishwasher only cleans superficially and often cannot reliably reach hard-to-access areas such as narrow necks, mouthpieces or seals. We therefore additionally recommend mechanical cleaning with our Cleanions drinking bottle cleaner.

What is the advantage of glass?

Taste: Unlike plastic, aluminum, and stainless steel bottles, glass is flavor-neutral and delivers the best drinking experience.

Hygiene: Plastic, aluminum, and stainless steel bottles develop deposits over time due to the material’s natural structure. Not the case with non-porous borosilicate glass. With proper care using our Cleanions, the glass bottle will look just like it did on its first day even after years of use.

Screw cap: The corners and edges of screw cap threads make it especially easy for mold and bacteria to take hold. These caps are often colored black so you can’t see the black spots of mold and bacteria. Our swing-top closure has a food-safe silicone seal that can be replaced. Additionally, the swing-top closure is firmly attached to the bottle, forming a single unit. Screw caps are usually loose and can easily be lost.

Production: Virtually all stainless steel bottles are manufactured in the Far East. For our bottle, all materials come from Germany, and the packaging is made in Switzerland.
