Whether it's a ski jacket, snowboard pants, or down jacket: winter clothing is so important because of its functionality, such as water resistance or windproofness. High-quality skiwear is made from water-repellent and breathable material that truly protects you from the elements during winter sports.

One of the most innovative and well-known fabrics used in skiwear is GORE-TEX®. It is made of extremely thin membranes containing billions of pores, each 20'000 times smaller than a water droplet. This fabric makes clothing waterproof, windproof, and breathable.

To keep this the case so you can still use your ski jacket next winter, we're giving you some washing tips here.

Special detergent for winter and sportswear?

There are special detergents formulated for sportswear, but you do not need to use them. The only important requirement is to avoid regular laundry detergent, as some Ingredients can impair the functional performance of the garment.

Our bluu Laundry Detergent Sheets clean gently even at low temperatures, and do not compromise functionality.

Washing a down jacket: what to note

If you have a down jacket, the washing process is even different:

  • Wash it at max. 400 rpm and max. 30 degrees.

Be especially careful when drying a down jacket. You can find more details in our blog post:

Drying and waterproofing ski jackets and pants

It's best not to put either the jacket or pants in the dryer and also not to lay them on a radiator to dry. Instead, you can hang the skiwear up.

Once the clothing is dry, you should check if the waterproofing is still intact. Take some water and drip it onto the clothing. If the water beads up, everything is fine. If the water is absorbed, you should reapply the waterproofing.

Cleaning gloves

As a rule, you should only hand-wash synthetic or GORE-TEX® ski and snowboard gloves. As always, consult the care label.

How to hand-wash your gloves:

  • Remove coarse dirt first.
  • Dissolve one small piece of bluu Laundry Detergent Sheets in a bowl or sink filled with lukewarm water.
  • Soak the gloves in it for about 30 minutes.
  • Gently squeeze out the water afterwards.
  • Place the gloves to dry with their fingertips facing up.

What you need to note for gloves made of fleece, leather, or cotton, you can find here.

Less is more

Avoid unnecessary washes. Sometimes airing the skiwear properly overnight is enough. Make sure the area isn't too humid.

You can remove small Stains and dirt with a warm cloth.
