Save, save, save: Are you also stuck in that well-known January slump right now? We’re sharing five Tips to help you save money, energy, and water when doing Laundry.
1 Don't wash too hot
The idea that you have to wash clothing as hot as possible to get it truly clean is long outdated. Modern machines and detergents can do that with colder water. And since water is usually only heated by the washing machine, it makes a big difference in terms of energy whether you wash something at 40 or 60 degrees: You save up to 45% energy with a 40-degree wash. If you wash with 30 instead of 40 degrees, that’s up to 40%.
So: Less is more!
Tips for Laundry at low temperatures
Worried that your laundry won't get clean at low temperatures? With these Tips, it's no problem:
- Pre-treat heavy Stains: You can find Tips for this on our Blog.
- 30 instead of 40 degrees: This is more than enough for everyday clothing.
- When to use 60 degrees: You can wash hand towels, dish towels, and washcloths at 60 degrees.
- Avoid germs and bacteria: Every few months, you should run an empty machine at a high temperature to fight germs. You can find out how to do that here.
- Be careful when someone is sick: If stomach flu is going around your home, separate the contaminated laundry from the “healthy” laundry. Then wash the “sick” laundry at high temperatures so it’s no longer contagious.
We recommend the bluu silvertrooper to use. The silver cloth eliminates bacteria as well as germs successfully, thanks to its powerful antibacterial effect and allows you to wash temperature by 20 °C to lower. This way, you get the same result with a 40°C wash as you used to get with 60°C. This saves up to 50% energy, so your energy costs will also go down! Discover the silvertrooper now!

2 Use the right detergent
For point 1 to work, the detergent must be suitable for low temperatures.
The bluu Laundry Detergent Sheets are not only perfect for that purpose, they are also very efficient at saving resources across other use cases.
Perfect for low temperatures
Our Laundry Detergent Sheets are effective even at a 15 degree wash temperature. And as you have already learned: The lower the temperature, the less energy you use.
To achieve optimal results, we recommend our new Nordic Breeze Laundry Detergent Sheets. They are the undisputed experts when it comes to Laundry at low temperatures. Their secret lies in amphoteric surfactants that are exclusively contained within the Nordic Breeze Laundry Detergent Sheets, setting them apart from our Alpine Freshness Laundry Detergent Sheets. The bluu Nordic Breeze Laundry Detergent Sheets also stand out due to their faster, more consistent dissolution time, which makes them perfectly suited for hand washing as well. Pretty cool, right?

The correct Dosage
You need one strip per wash cycle, it’s that simple. How does this help you save money?
Too much detergent leads to higher water consumption and costs money. Your washing machine will pump more additional water if there is too much foam in the drum.
Consumers tend to pour too much liquid detergent into the detergent tray. The more product you need to use, the faster you will have to restock. With bluu, you know right from the start exactly how many wash cycles the strips will last for.

3 Skip pre-wash and quick wash programs
Pre-wash uses water and electricity and is unnecessary: This guidance dates back to a time when people had to heavily soak laundry covered in thick dirt and grime. But your washing machine and bluu Laundry Detergent Sheets handle normally soiled laundry perfectly well with no pre-washing required.
Also you should skip the quick wash program: To get your clothing clean quickly, the machine needs more water and energy than other wash programs. So it’s not worth it.
4 Fill the washing machine correctly
Only wash when you can fill the machine completely. A half-full washing machine uses almost the same amount of water, electricity, and detergent as a fully loaded one. But overfilling is also bad: then the laundry won’t get clean properly, and you’ll have to wash it again.
Correctly filled means: your extended, spread hand still fits into the drum above the laundry.
Use 5 bluu balls in the dryer
Our bluu balls help separate laundry items from each other, allowing air to circulate better, which means the laundry dries faster and wrinkles less. This way, you not only save time and electricity when drying, but also later when ironing. By the way, you can also skip fabric softener. You can learn more about this in this blog.
