External influences such as sun cream, salt water and chlorine can cause bikinis, swimsuits and swimming trunks to wear out quickly, elastic bands can become brittle and unsightly yellow stains can appear. Especially after a summer vacation, you realize how important proper care is for the longevity of your swimwear.
#1 Rinse bikini/swim trunks well
After each wear, you should rinse your bikini or swimming trunks with fresh water to remove salt, sand, sun cream and chlorine. Simply rinse it under running water and gently squeeze out any excess water. This will keep the fabric clean and reduce fading.
#2 Wash by hand
If you need to wash your bikini or swimming trunks, it is recommended that you do this every three wears. Use the bluu washing strips for hand washing. They are particularly gentle on your textiles and, thanks to their fast dissolution time, are also very suitable for low temperatures and hand washing. Soak your bikini/swimming trunks in lukewarm water with mild detergent and gently squeeze them out. Avoid rubbing or twisting the bikini or swimming trunks as this can damage or deform the fabric.
#3 Lay down to dry
Never leave your bikini or swimming trunks to dry in the sun. UV rays can damage the fabric and increase fading. Instead, dry it in the shade on a flat surface. Avoid wringing the bikini or swimming trunks as this unnecessarily strains and distorts the fabric.
Tip:
Squeeze out excess water with a towel by placing the towel on the bikini or swimming trunks and carefully rolling it up.
#4 Treat stains carefully
Avoid applying sunscreen or oils directly to your bikini or swimming trunks as these can cause stains. If you want to remove stains such as wax, sunscreen, deodorant marks or other residues, you can use bluu's stain soap. Wet the affected area, rub in the stain soap and leave it on for a short time before rinsing it out with water. Note that you should test the stain soap on an inconspicuous area first to make sure you don't damage the fabric.
#5 No tedious emptying
Our wash strips are ideal for traveling. They fit perfectly in any luggage and can be taken anywhere without the hassle of emptying them ;-) What's more, you can simply dissolve the wash strips in a bowl of water and do the laundry by hand. Always and everywhere.
For the sake of the environment
Washing your bikini/swimsuit correctly can not only help it last longer, but also reduce the environmental impact. According to one study, the average bikini is washed 15 times a year. To minimize the environmental impact, we recommend reducing the number of washes to 5 per year. If you assume that a bikini is worn for 5 years, this would mean a total of 25 washes. This measure could reduce your environmental impact by up to 66.7% over the use phase.
You should also use green electricity to further reduce your environmental impact. By combining these two measures, you can reduce water pollution by 28.2 % and global warming potential by 14.8 %. Switching to green electricity can also bring further savings of 9.4%.
Overall, we can help reduce our environmental impact and make our clothes last longer by taking proper care of our bikinis/swimsuits, but also by choosing quality, long-lasting products. This way, we can not only wear our favorite bikinis again and again, but also contribute to protecting our environment.
