Summer is here and baseball caps are being used more and more. The headgear gets really sweaty in the summer temperatures. Can you even put your baseball cap in the washing machine? We answer this question and give you even more tips on how to care for your cap.
Let's answer the most pressing question first.
Can you wash your baseball cap in the washing machine?
No. It shouldn't be your first choice. There is a very high risk of damaging the cap. The water, the movements of the drum and the detergent can damage your cap.
If you still decide to wash it in the machine, you should pay attention to the following points:
- Set a gentle wash cycle
- Wash at a maximum of 30 degrees
- Low spin speed
- Detergent without bleach: bluu is wonderfully suitable!
The baseball cap does NOT belong in the washing machine, especially in the following cases
The reinforcement is made of cardboard
This is rarely found on newer models, but it can happen that the peak of your baseball cap is made of cardboard and paper. If this is the case, you should not machine wash it, as this would of course destroy the cardboard.
If the front part is made of plastic, it is easier to machine wash.
The baseball cap stains
Before you decide on one cleaning method or another, you should check your cap for color fastness. This is very simple:
- Take a damp, white cloth or kitchen paper
- Rub a hidden area with it
- If any color remains on the cloth, you can assume that your baseball cap is not colorfast
Cleaning can ruin your cap, so don't do it. We'll tell you how to care for it differently further down in this article.
The label says hand wash
If the label doesn't recommend machine washing, then you shouldn't do it either. Next, we'll tell you how to wash your baseball cap by hand.
