The best tips for loading your dishwasher correctly

How to load your dishwasher correctly

The dishwasher is a real hero in the kitchen: it makes the dishes sparkling clean without us having to lift a finger. But in order for it to work to its full potential, it needs our support when loading. No more dishes that don't get properly clean - in this blog post, we'll show you our tips on how to load your dishes correctly and get your dishwasher running at peak performance.

Here are some tried-and-tested tips for loading your dishwasher correctly:

  • Sort cutlery with the handle facing down so that the dirty ends are facing up. This allows the dirty areas to be optimally rinsed by the water. However, an exception should be made for sharp knives - it is better to load them upside down due to the risk of injury.
  • Load from large to small: Place large and robust dishes at the bottom and small and delicate dishes such as glasses at the top. Taller items should be positioned at the back of the bottom rack, for example. Plastic items, on the other hand, should be placed in the upper basket - they feel most comfortable there due to the lower temperatures.
  • Load the dishes without any points of contact - the water will not reach any points of contact between the dishes. For the same reason, you should also avoid stacking dishes. If you are dealing with heavily soiled dishes, make sure you leave a little more space between them so that every stain is completely removed.

  • If possible, sort glasses, cups and bowls with the opening facing downwards so that no dirty water collects in the openings and you don't have to worry about wet dishes.
  • Avoid overloading your machine. An overloaded machine can not only lead to poor cleaning results, but also to damage to your dishes due to collisions or friction.
  • Remove stubborn soiling, coarse food residues and large amounts of grease before loading. This will prevent the strainer from clogging and the residue from being spread to other items of crockery. However, a general pre-rinse is not necessary - your machine has enough power to clean your dishes effectively even without pre-treatment.
  • Avoid placing loose items such as lids or small objects on top of the dishes in the dishwasher. This can otherwise prevent the water and detergent from reaching and cleaning all the dishes evenly.

Everyone has probably heard these tips before. Here we present a few expert tips that may not be familiar to every household:

  • Make sure that the dishwashing arm can move freely. Especially with tall dishes, make sure that they do not obstruct the free movement of the spray arms. This is the only way to ensure that the water circulates freely between all parts and cleans your dishes effectively.
  • A certain amount of clutter inside the machine leads to more effective cleaning. Yes, you heard that right! With a little chaos in the machine, the water reaches all corners and gaps better than with perfectly arranged dishes. For example, don't place all the small and large plates separately, but arrange them alternately. This allows the water to reach everywhere more evenly, resulting in more thorough cleaning.
  • Arrange glasses and plastic items alternately in the top rack to prevent friction and possible damage to the delicate glasses. It is also advisable to load plastic dishes at an angle. Lightweight plastic containers tend to tip over during the wash cycle, causing water to collect - this is prevented by placing them at an angle.

  • Place large pots and pans in the corners of the dishwasher basketwith the inside facing outwards . This prevents them from blocking the flow of water to other dishes.
  • Is there hardly any space in the machine for larger items? No problem - check whether you can adjust the top rack of your dishwasher. Some models have an adjustable basket at the top that gives you the space you need for bulky dishes. This makes putting away dishes a breeze, even when space is tight.
