Can you wash wool in the washing machine or will it break? Wool does need a little more attention when washing, but with these six tips from bluu you can wash your wool items easily and safely.
#1 Don't wash wool too hot
Wool does not tolerate hot water, which is why the right temperature is very important when washing. Make sure that the water is a maximum of 30 degrees whether you wash your woolen clothes in the machine or by hand.
#2 Washing wool in the wool wash cycle
Most washing machines have a wool wash cycle and/or a delicate wash cycle. This is the right choice for you, as wool should be washed as gently as possible so that the material does not become matted or warped.
- If possible, choose the wool or delicate cycle
- Wool at 600 to a maximum of 800 revolutions Wash
- If you are unsure, it is better to wash by hand
Don't forget: Please check the care label firstif your wool sweater prefers hand washing.
#3 Use bluu for washing wool
Wool, whether merino wool or cashmere wool, is a natural product that is very sensitive.
It is important that the detergent is free from enzymes and free from brighteners because wool does not tolerate this very well.
Our washing strips are free from both and are ideal for your wool clothing. Both in the washing machine and for hand washing (you can find out how to wash by hand correctly here.). And please leave out the fabric softener!
Now try the bluu washing strips
#4 Treat stains carefully
If your woolen clothing has been stained, a gentle approach is also recommended here. No aggressive stain removers and no vigorous rubbing is recommended.
Instead, dissolve some bluu washing strips in water and carefully dab the stain with it. You can also use a brush. Repeat the process if necessary.
#5 As little as possible, as much as necessary
Especially with delicate wool: The less washed, the better.
Did you know that wool can clean itself? The inside consists of two types of fibers, one of which absorbs more moisture than the other. This causes the fibers to rub against each other and release dirt. The dirt sticks less well.
So if your woolen clothing smells a little but is actually still clean, then hang it up to air it out.
Tip:
Wear a T-shirt under your wool sweater so that sweat is not absorbed by the wool. This will keep the sweater fresh for longer.
#6 Dry the wool lying down
Wool takes a comparatively long time to dry properly. And because you only wash it on the delicate or wool cycle (with a low spin speed), the clothes will be quite wet.
- Never wring out wool!
- Lay your woolen clothing on a towel, roll it up and carefully squeeze out the excess water.
- It is best dry your wool lying down on a clothes horse.
- Do not Do not hang the woolas this will stretch the fibers and wear out your clothes.
